Rape and other forms of sexual violence in conflict are appallingly common – affecting mostly women and girls, but also men and boys.

On 24 June 2013, the UN Security Council will hold an debate on the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Chaired by UK Foreign Secretary William Hague, the debate will look at accountability for crimes of sexual violence on the national level and how the UN can better support countries in holding perpetrators to account.

Briefers will include Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Zainab Bangura, Angelina Jolie, and Jane Anywar Adong.
